Abstract

Keywords: students’ learning English, parental support Learning is necessary for every individual, because by learning, an individual will gain the knowledge about what she/he will learn. Motivation is important in learning activities; it can lead an individual to the learning activities. There are several factors that influence motivation in learning; they are intrinsic motivation, it is motivation coming from inside the individual and extrinsic motivation which is motivation coming from outside of an individual. For the children in primary school age the role of extrinsic motivation and parental support are still needed in the process of learning. The formulation of the research problems are: 1) What kinds of support are given by the parents to the students in learning English? 2) To what extent does the parents support contribute to the improvement of the children’s English skill?. The purposes of this study are to: 1) know the kind of support given by the parents to the students in learning English, 2) know to what extent parental support contribute for the children in learning English does. This study used a descriptive qualitative design where the data is taken from interview to the students, parents, and the English teacher. Analysis of the data used in this study is inductive. Researcher analyzes how the students are like based on the results of interview to the parties and then take a sample. Students who are in the criteria of the researcher are students who have good English language skills and have good support from their parents. The Result of the research about the study on the role of parental support towards students learning English are as follows: support given by parents are, motivation support, support of facilities, and material support; parents provide good control of the child; parents provide facilities to support learning facilities children at home; these facilities include books, magazines, internet, dictionary, English movie and educative game. That role and support make the children have good English language skills.
