Keyword: Vocabulary Mastery, Explicit Teaching Vocabulary, One Day One Sentence Strategy Vocabulary is one important thing which to be mastered for every English learner. Knowing enough vocabulary makes learner easy to communicate in a simple way. In order to master vocabulary well, a learner needs to learn about strategy to make them easily learn about vocabulary. It is not only how to memorize the vocabulary but also how to build the vocabulary into a good sentence. Thus, the researcher offers a strategy which can be one of the way to learn vocabulary. This kind of strategy called One Day One Sentence strategy. This name is modified by explicit teaching strategy. Explicit teaching strategy means that the teacher gives clearly define about definition and information. In this strategy, the learners are drilled to reach vocabulary everyday and build a sentence by using the vocabulary. Therefore, the researcher chooses this strategy to know whether this strategy is effective for teaching vocabulary in junior high school or not. The formulation of research question “is there any effect of using One Day One Sentence strategy on the students’ vocabulary mastery of seventh grade at SMPN 1 Ngunut Tulungagung”. The objective of this study is to find out the effect of using One Day One Sentence strategy on the students’ vocabulary mastery of seventh grade at SMPN 1 Ngunut Tulungagung. This study belongs to quantitative research with quasi-experimental research design. The population of this study is all of seventh grade students of SMPN 1 Ngunut Tulungagung which consist of 352 students. The sample is 7H students as experimental group and 7G students as control group. The sampling technique was random sampling technique. The instrument of this study is vocabulary test. To collect the data, the researcher administered pre-test and post-test. The test consists of two kinds of item test namely Word Search and Missing Letters. Each of item test has 10 item questions. The result of the test showed that the mean score of students in experimental group before being implemented by One Day One Sentence strategy was 58.81 and after being implemented by One Day One Sentence strategy, the mean score becomes 81.31. Meanwhile in control group the students’ mean score x of pre-test was 51.97 and the mean score of post-test was 74.62. However the improvement of experimental group was higher than control group. To test the hypothesis, the researcher uses T-test statistical analysis in SPSS 16.0 version. The result showed that the significance level is 0.000. This shows that the significance level is lower than 0.05. It can be defined that null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. It can be concluded that there is an effect of using One Day One Sentence strategy on the students’ vocabulary mastery or in other words, it can be stated that One Day One Sentence strategy is effective to be implemented for teaching vocabulary to the students junior high school
