Abstract

Enhancing speaking skills of the ninth grade students at Tampityakhan School Patani South of Thailand by using activity based english learning. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Speaking is one of English skill to communicate with other. Speaking is very important for people especially for students. One interesting method that can make the students feel enjoy in speaking class is activity based English method. Activities based English learning can also give positive effects on the students’ interest and motivation in studying English as well as to increase their speaking skill. Activity based method gives the students can be enhancing an opportunity to practice short conversation in a class. Furthermore, by using this method, the students will have a chance to speak English with the others. The statement of the research problem can be stated as follows: 1 ) How can Activity Based English Learning enhance strategies speaking skill? The objective of this study as follow: 1 ) To know Activity Based English Learning enhance strategies speaking skill. The research design used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) by Kemmis and Taggar that categorized into qualitative study. The participants were the students of nine grade of Thampityakhan school. The researcher collaborated with the English teacher to apply the Activity based method to teach speaking to students of nine grade of Thampityakhan school. The data source in this researcher is questionnaire that given by the researcher to the students. In analyzing the data gotten from each cycle, the researcher used the gained score formula then compared them with the individual and class criteria of success. In this research the individual criteria of success was 75. From the data of the preliminary study, cycle I, and cycle II were shown that the students’ speaking skill enhancing. From the data of the preliminary study, cycle I, and cycle II were shown that the students’ speaking skill improved. In the preliminary study, there were 6 students could not reach passing grade, and 5 students got good score. It means, there were 45% students got success. Then in cycle I, there were 4 students could not reach the passing grade, and 7 students passed. It means, there were 63 % students got success. This had not fulfilled the standard criteria of this research, that was 63 % from the total students. Based on the reflection of cycle 1, the researcher conducted cycle 2. In cycle II, revealed thatthere were 2 students could not reach the passing grade, and 9 students reach the passing grade. It means, there were 90 % students got success. So, there were increase score from pre-test, test of cycle 1, cycle 2. Studying from the result, it can be concluded that the implementation of activity based method could be enhancing students’ skill in speaking. Furthermore, it is suggested to the students to use activity based to learn speaking. The teacher also must be more creative and innovative in teaching in the classroom.
