ABSTRACT Yolandari, Nuzulul Fitri. NIM. 17203153128. 2019. The Effectiveness of Using Crossover Learning on Students’ Narrative Writing Skill at Eight Grade of Islamic Junior School 01 Tulungagung. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Faizatul Istiqomah, M.Ed. Keywords: Effectiveness, Crossover Learning Strategy, Narrative Writing Skill. The lowest ability to process ideas, experiences and feeling in the written form make difficulties for students’ to write their ideas. Practically in writing for example, by learning some experience and culture in the past someone can express and deliver message in writing especially on narrative writing. Nowadays, students feel bored with conventional strategy that used in teaching writing. In this context, many students were confused to start their writing. Because of the importance of writing, it requires a relax and pleasant atmosphere that can support students learning by providing a strategy Crossover Learning that is combined formal and informal learning. The study was done to verify whether or not Crossover Learning was effective to be used in teaching narrative writing skills. The formulation of the research problem was “Is there any significant different score on students narrative writing skill using Crossover Learning and those taught without Crossover Learning at eight grade of Islamic Junior High School 01 Tulungagung in academic year 2018/2019”. Research method: 1) the research design of this study was Quasiexperimental with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this study was second grade students of MTsN 01 Tulungagung, 3) the samples were VIII.6 class consisted of 38 students and VIII.8 class consisted of 37 students, 4) the research instrument was test, 5) the data analysis was using T-test. The finding showed that Crossover Learning was effective used in teaching writing especially in narrative writing learning at second grade of MTsN 01 Tulungagung. The effectiveness of Crossover Learning can be shown in the following points: 1) the mean score of students on pre-test taught by using Crossover Learning was 73.03, and the mean score of post-test was 85.00. The gain of the mean score was 11.97. 2) the mean score of students on pre-test taught without Crossover Learning was 75.70, and the mean score of post-test was 76.25. The gain of the mean score was 0.55. 3) the result of t-test at significance level of 0.05 showed that the significant values (sig-2 tailed) was 0.00 smaller than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). The result means that there is significant different in students narrative writing skill taught by using Crossover Learning and those taught without Crossover Learning.
