Abstract

Key word: Effectiveness, Realia, Vocabulary For young learner of elementary level, realia is one of the medias which is suitable for third year students. They feel happy and enjoy their studying taught by using The research problems and purposed: (1) How is student’s vocabulary achievement taught using realia (2) How is student’s vocabulary achievement taught without using realia (3) Is realia effective to teach vocabulary for the third year students at SDN Talun 02 Blitar. The research methodology: This study is experimental design with quantitative approach. Here the writer took the third year students at SDN Talun 02 Blitar as the subject of the study. The writer took 21 students as population of the study consisted of the class before taught by using realia and after taught using of realia. Data collecting methods used in this study were test, writer used two kinds of test, there were pre-test and post-test. Then the researcher analyzed the data by using formulation of t- test. The result of research : (1) The students’ mastery on vocabulary before taught by using realia are: 6 students get bad score, it means that 28,5% students get bad score, 2 students get less score, it means that 9,5% get less score, 2 students get enough/fair score, it means that 9,5% students get enough/fair score, 5 students get good score, it means that 23,8% get good score, and 6 students get very good score, it means that 28,5% students get very good score. So, the mean of pre-test = = = 64,1 was enough/fair. (2) The students’ mastery on vocabulary after taught by using realia are: 3 students get less score, it means that 14,3% students get less score, 4 students get enough/fair score, it means that 19,1% students get enough/fair score, 3 gets good score, it means that 14,3% students get good score, and 11 students get very good score. It means that 52,4% students get very good score. So, the mean of post-test = = = 80,6 was very good (3) There is significant difference between students’ mastery on vocabulary before and after taught by using realia. The result showed that if t > t (3,981 > 2,092) so, Ho is rejected or Ha is accepted. Based on the results that are gotten, we reject the null hypothesis. It means that there were any significant differences between score of pretest (before taught by using realia) and posttest (after taught by using realia). It can be concluded that the students get very good achievement in mastering vocabulary after taught by using realia. The students vocabulary mastery improve and significantly better than before taught by using realia, so teaching vocabulary by using realia is effective to improve students’ mastery on vocabulary.
