English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Hj. Nanik Sri Rahayu, M.Pd. Keywords: speaking activities, speaking skill Speaking is one of the most complex problems in learning English. Learners should have some activities to support their speaking because they are not only focusing on their mastery on vocabulary, but also their pronunciation, grammar, even fluency and the content. Activities in speaking help them to be able to make their learning process more comfortable and enjoyable and also can be good partner for students in maintaining English speaking skill. There is a debater student in Trenggalek who can speak English very well, even win many debate competitions. Based on that phenomenon, the researcher is interested to find out her experience about the activities done in maintaining her speaking skill. The question that formulated by the researcher is “How does a debater student at Senior High School 1 Trenggalek maintains her English Speaking Skill?” The purpose of the study is intended to investigate the experience about speaking activities of debater student in maintaining her English speaking skill. Research Method: 1) the research design in this study was narrative inquiry with qualitative approach, 2) the subject of this study was one senior high school debater student at SMAN 1 Trenggalek, 3) the research instrument were narrative frame, interview, and documentation 4) the data analysis was using four steps, they are organizing and familiarizing; coding and reducing; interpreting and representing; drawing conclusion. After conducted narrative frame, interview, and documentation, the researcher found the result of this study. The activities that support the subject in maintaining speaking skill are doing time management, reading journal or news, self-talk, practice debate, watching debate video and movie or film without subtitle, having whatsapp chat in bilingual language with debate team or senior, using full English in replying foreign people tweet in twitter, learning grammar from instagram account, coercion and motivation to achieve targets (force and push herself), and make an evaluation book. She said that practice debate is her main activity to maintain her speaking skill, supported by reading journal or news and watching debate video on Youtube. Then, she knows how to deliver the message to the audience. The conclusion of this study is that various activities are needed to maintain the students for preforming speaking skill.
