Abstract

ABSTRACT Razzaq, Abdul. Registered Student Number 12510184033.2021. “Self Efficacy of the Master Program in ELT Graduates in Academic Writing”. Thesis. English Education Department. Magister Program. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisors: Dr. Arina Shofiya and Dr. Nursamsu. Key words: Self-Efficacy, Graduates, Academic Writing The present study was carried out to explore the factors that affect perceived self-efficacy of the students and the strategies to enhance perceived self-efficacy of the students in completing the academic writing. The present study employed descriptive design with qualitative approach. The subjects of this study was the graduates of master program in ELT in IAIN Tulungagung. There were three participants purposively selected in this study who have criteria as the good score graduate in thesis writing and the English teacher. The data of this study were in the form of statements from the subjects and the data were collected by employing depth interview with the subjects. The data were analyzed using data analysis procedures proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014) is consisting of three concurrent flows activity: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings of this study revealed; (1) There are five factors affect students’ self efficacy in academic writing. They were; four factors from Bandura (1997) enactive mastery experience, vicarious experience, social persuasion, physiological and effective stages, and one factor was new finding in this study, it was economic factor. (2) There were some strategies to enhance students’ self efficacy in academic writing. They were; self-regulation learning and provide more time to read.
