The Correlation Between Students’ Grammar Mastery and Their Competence in Writing Descriptive Text at The Tenth Grade SMKN 1 Bandung in Academic Year 2020/2021. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Hj. Ida Isnawati, M.Pd. Keywords: correlation, grammar mastery, writing descriptive text. Grammar is one of the linguistic elements that influence writing ability, especially in descriptive text. Having strong grammar mastery, allowed writers to deliver their message to the reader clearly and understandably. On the contrary, writing in a grammatically incorrect manner simply makes it more difficult for readers to understand. It's crucial to utilize the right words to get the idea through, as well as to practice good basic grammar when writing descriptive text. This research aims to find the correlation between students’ grammar mastery and their competence in writing descriptive text at the tenth grade at SMKN 1 Bandung in academic year 2020/2021. The research design was correlation research. The population was X-TKRO and the sample was from X-TKRO 4, it consisted of 35 students. The instrument of this research used a test for grammar and writing. The technique to analyze the data used Pearson-Product Moment, and it was done with the help of the SPSS 24 program. Based on the data analysis, the researcher concluded that there was a positive correlation between grammar mastery and their competence in writing descriptive text. The result of correlation testing between grammar mastery and writing descriptive text was r = 0,903. It showed that the correlation between two variables is very strong. The SPSS calculation the researcher got N. Sig = 0.000, where significance < 0.05. In this research, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and Hi was accepted. From the statement above, there is any significant correlation between students’ grammar mastery and their competence in writing descriptive text at the tenth grade SMKN 1 Bandung in academic year 2020/2021.
