Keyword(s): Strategy, Motivation, Learning English Each teacher has their own way to make the students feel motivated in learning English. Coupled with the difficulties of learning English as foreign language, students come to think that learning English is something difficult to do. Because of this, students’ motivation is decreasing when the English lesson is mentioned. However, as a teacher, one should have strategies to use in order to motivate students so they can achieve their future goals, in which English is an important factor in nowadays world. Based on this, the researcher conducted research because students in MTs Darissulaimaniyyah Durenan has low motivations in learning English. However, their teacher has high passions in teaching the students despite teaches them for less than two years. Furthermore, the teacher’s passions make him search for various strategies that can be used to make students motivated in learning English. In response to this, the researcher chose to conduct this research to know the teacher’s strategies to motivate the students. This research aims to know what strategies used by the teacher to develop students’ motivation in learning English at MTs Darissulaimaniyah Durenan and how the strategies used can help develop students’ motivation in learning English at MTs Darissulaimaniyah Durenan. The design of the research used in this study is qualitative research. The researcher will be the key instrument in doing the research since it is qualitative. The subject of the research is a teacher in MTs Darissulaimaniyyah Durenan who has high passions in making the students motivated in learning English and the participants are three students who learns English under the chosen teacher. The technique of data collection method used is in-depth interview, observation and documentation. Next, the researcher do crosscheck what the teacher said in interview with the fact that in field, in this case, in the teaching and learning process to gain triangulation. The data in this research is utterances spoken by the teacher regarding his strategy to develop students’ motivation in learning English. The data analysis in this research noticed and identified teacher’s strategy to develop students’ motivation in learning English and how the strategies used can motivate students in learning English. The result of the data analysis shows that the strategies used by the teacher include directly giving students’ motivation in the beginning of the lesson regarding the importance of English language, giving the students up-to-date information to broaden the students’ horizon, using students’ favorite activities in the learning process, use interesting media to make students’ interested, using movies in the classroom, maximizing the use of pictures, conducting games in teaching and learning process, giving students the appreciation the deserve, and lastly giving students test to track their progress. As to how the strategies found can motivate the students can be seen from: students knew their goals in learning english, thus the benefit after learning itself can make them interested, students had expextations in learning english after knowing how fast the world is progressing, students’ favorite activities piqued their interest in learning english. furthermore, when the teacher asked them what their favorite activites are can fulfill their needs, using specific media made students interested in target lesson, movies with the benefit of having audiovisual made students feel interested; it has different feeling with standart materials written in books, the variety of pictures used made students interested, using games made students interested and at the same time, it can satisfy their needs and expectations in classroom, students had expectations when the teacher appreciate their hardwork, thus it made them feel motivated, test could make students had expectations about their progress in learning english. All of the data found is proven to be able to develop students’ motivation in classroom with the indicators as: Students become interested in the lesson and are eager to participate in the lesson. In conclusion, teacher’s strategy is an important factor to be mentioned when the topic of students’ motivation in learning English is aroused. Different strategies may lead to different level of students’ motivation. In this research, various attractive strategies are used by teacher to motivate students in learning English, and from the technique used, the students are motivated to learn English because they feel interested in learning the lesson.
