Mufidah, Khoirotum. 2022. The Effectiveness of Self Talk Strategy on Student’s Public Speaking Achievement of English Education Departmen at UIN SATU Tulungagung. A Graduating Paper, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah University of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Hj. Nanik Sri Rahayu M.Pd. Key words: Self-Talk Strategy, Public Speaking, English education. Public speaking is oral communication spoken in front of large people that combines the skill of speaking and the art of speaking. That the combination between the skill of speaking and the art of speaking, public speaking needs two important aspects, they are; the speaking itself and the way how to deliver the speech. For the beginners, mastering public speaking is not very easy. Most of the students who will make presentations sometimes feel nervous even though the material has been prepared in advance before or even some suddenly and the results are not appropriate with what is expected. In this circumstance, self-talk strategy can be used to help students improve their public speaking achievement. The formulation of the research problem was “Is there any significant improvement of students’ public speaking achievement before and after being taught using Self-Talk Strategy on English education department at UIN SATU Tulungagung. The objective of the research was “To know whether there is significance improvement in students’ public speaking achievement before and after being taught using Self-Talk Strategy on English education department at UIN SATU Tulungagung. The research design was used pre-experimental research design by using one group pretest and posttest with quantitative approach. The population of this research was all 4th student semester of English education department. The sample was 4A class which the total 42 students. The research instrument was test. The data analysis using IBM SPSS 25.0 version by using Wilcoxon Pair Match Test. The finding showed that Self-Talk Strategy was effective used in teaching public speaking at English education department of UIN SATU Tulungagung. It can be seen from the mean of total scores of students’ public speaking achievement before being taught by using Self-Talk Strategy was 18,50. The mean of total scores of students’ public speaking achievement after being taught by using Self-Talk Strategy was 21,52. Then the significant p-value is smaller than the significant level (0.000 < 0.05) in other words, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. The result means that there is any significant improvement of the students’ public speaking achievement before and after being taught by using Self-Talk Strategy.
