Reading is one of the important skills that students need to have in language learning, especially for students in developing countries like Indonesia who consider English as a foreign language (EFL) difficult to learn. Direct reading activities with writing skills. English writing can also be used to raise the rank of tourist areas. However, from the origin of the promotion, the inhibiting factors are the lack of mastery of English, choosing the right words to introduce regional tourism, and offering local products that are of interest to foreign tourists. Therefore, writing in English is expected to be able to convey the message of promotion effectively. In writing descriptive texts, students experience difficulties such as creating inspiration, organizing inspiration as descriptive text, difficulties in grammar, and lack of vocabulary. So, to be able to write descriptive texts, students need to master language, punctuation, and grammar, as well as develop and organize ideas as a paragraph. The formulation of this research is: “Is there any significant correlation between habit in reading tourism promotion text and writing descriptive text ability?”. Furthermore, the purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a correlation between habit in reading tourism promotion text and writing descriptive text ability. In this study, researchers used a correlational design with a quantitative approach. The population in this study means that there are 165 students in class VIII MTsN 8 Tulungagung. The number of samples means 35 students who are determined by the random sampling technique. The research instrument was carried out through questionnaires and tests. While the data collection method uses a distribution test. The data analysis technique in this study is to calculate the correlation coefficient using the Spearman’s Rho Formula technique through SPSS 21 for windows. The results of this study have a negative correlation, because students have high scores in the questionnaire but they have low scores in writing descriptive texts. According to the calculation of the correlation coefficient, this study has no correlation, because the correlation coefficient is -0.170. Data analysis through calculations using Spearman's Rho Formula using SPSS 21 for windows, the data share that the value of sig (2-tailed) 0.328 is bigger than the significant level (α) 5%, meaning the null hypothesis (H0) is accepted and the alternative hypothesis is automatically (H1) rejected. It can be concluded that there is no significant correlation between the habit in reading tourism promotion texts and writing descriptive text ability for class VIII MTsN 8 Tulungagung students for the 2021-2022 academic year.
