Keyword: Folktale, Listening Listening is an important skill to master in learning a language, especially English. But, in reality there are still many students who have difficulty mastering this skill. At this time, there are some media that can be used for teachers to help them in teaching listening. Media as a learning resource has an important role to help and support the success of teacher in the learning process. Therefore, teacher must be creative and clever in choosing media that can motivate students in learning. One of these media is folktale videos. Folktale video is one of the media that can be used in teaching listening. The story is told by a professional narrator so, that student can hear the correct pronunciation. This study was conducted to find out the effectiveness of folktale videos on students’ listening achievement at the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Gondang. The formulation of research problem is: Is there any effectiveness of using folktale videos on the students’ listening achievement at SMAN 1 Gondang. Based on the formulation of research problem, the purpose of the study is to find evidence whether using folktale videos are effective or not on the students’ listening achievement at SMAN 1 Gondang. This research uses quantitative research with pre-experimental method. The population used is all students of tenth-grade at SMAN 1 Gondang consist of 342 students. The study uses convenience sampling and gets a sample of class X MIPA 6 which consists of 22 students. To collect data, researcher used a test, namely pre-test and post-test. This study was analyzed using the sign test with SPSS 25. The findings showed significant differences between the result of pre-test and post-test. The average score on the pre-test (77.18) is lower than the average score on the post-test (87.09). It means that there is difference score on the students’ listening achievement. From the calculation, of the sign test showed that the Significance value is 0.000 and it is lower than 0.05 (0.000<0.05). It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It could be conclude, that there is effectiveness of using folktale videos on students’ listening achievement before and after treatment. In addition, the use of folktale video can be alternative media to teach listening.
