The Correlational Study Between Students’ Habit in Writing Diary and Students’ ability in Writing Recount Text at the Eighth Grade Students of MTs As Salam Sooko. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of teaching training and education. State Islamic University Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. H. Nursamsu, S.Pd.I,M.Pd. Keyword: Writing Diary, Writing Ability, Recount Text. Writing is way to express people mind. Diary writing is one of the methods for learning English, especially for students when learn to write. In a school student often feel that studying is very boring. Students need other learning alternatives that are more fun. So that students have higher enthusiasm during learning process and it will affect their achievement, so that they can easy to write a work as writing recount text. The formulation of the research can be phrased as “Is there is any correlation between students’ habit in writing diary and students’ ability in writing recount text?”. Then, the purpose of the study is to find out whether there is any correlation between students’ habit in writing diary and students’ ability in writing recount text. This research uses correlation quantitative as the research design. The population of this study was all students of eighth grade students of MTs As Salam Sooko. For the sample the researcher use saturation sampling, so the researcher took all of the population become the sample because the population are less than 100 that are 46 students of the eighth grade students of MTs As Salam Sooko. To get a data of the research, some instruments are used. The instruments are valid questionnaire and writing test. To analyze the correlation between two variable, the researcher uses Pearson Product Moment Correlation because the data distribution is normal. The result of this research revealed that there is correlation between students’ habit in writing diary and students’ ability in writing recount text. It is because the significant value 0.00 which is lower than 0.05. The coefficient correlation between students habit in writing diary and students’ ability in writing recount text is 0.992 which means that is has very high correlation. In the other hand, there is positive correlation between students who have habit in writing diary and students’ ability in writing recount text at the eighth grade students of MTs As Salam Sooko.
