Keywords : Effectiveness, RAP (Read - Ask - Put) Strategy, Reading Comprehension. One of the language skills that has to be mastered by students in learning a foreign language is reading skill. Reading is considered as an important aspect for students because of its valuable benefit in developing know ledge. Reading is also the most important skill for EFL learners especially in academic context because students need to comprehend and deal with all reading aspect and difficulties. However, mastering reading, especially in reading comprehension is not al ways easy for the students since it requires the students’ mastery on grammar, vocabulary, background knowledge, etc . There are many strategies which is can used by the teacher to help the students mastering the reading comprehension. Such as RAP (Read - Ask - Put) strategy. Thus, the researcher is interested in know ing whether RAP strategy is effective in teaching reading comprehension of the first grad e at SMAN 1 Rejotangan. The problems proposed in this study are: (1) how is the students ’ achievement in reading comprehension before being taught by using RAP strategy? (2) How is the students ’ achievement in reading comprehension after being taught by using RAP strategy? And (3) is there any significant difference before and after being taug ht by using RAP strategy? Purposes of this research are: (1) to investigate the students ’ reading comprehension before being taught by using RAP strategy. (2) To investigate the students ’ reading comprehension after being taught by using RAP strategy. (3 ) To find out the significant differences of students ’ reading comprehension before and after being taught by using RAP strategy. Method of this research: This research uses pre - Experimental Design using quantitative approach with one group pre - test and post - test design. It is intended to find out any significant difference on the students ’ reading achievement before and after taught using RAP strategy. The population of this study was all the first grade s tudents at SMAN 1 Rejotangan Tulungagung. While, t he sample was X - E class that consists of 31 students. The research instrument that was used is test. Test is administered toward one group of students that is class X - E . It administered before conducting treatment that is called pre - test and also administ ered after conducting treatment that is called post - test. Treatment that is used is by RAP strategy . The data of this research is students score in pre - test and post - test, and to analysis that data the writer using SPSS 16.0 for windows program. x The result of this study showed that the mean of students ’ score of pretest before they are taught being using RAP strategy to improve reading comprehension was ( 64.38 ). While the mean of students’ score after they are taught being using RAP strategy was ( 78.1 2 ). The t - count was ( 8.843 ), whereas t - table with significant level 5% was 2.042 . So, t - count was greater than t - table. It means that Ha which states that there is significance different in using RAP strategy to improve students ’ reading comprehension of t he first grade at SMAN 1 Rejotangan Tulungagung is accepted. Whereas, Ho which states that there is no significant different in using RAP strategy to improve students ’ reading comprehension of the first grade at SMAN 1 Rejotangan Tulungagung is rejected. I n other words, RAP strategy to improve students ’ reading comprehension can be used as an alternative strategy to improve students ’ reading comprehension at senior high school, especially for 10 th grade.
