Key words : FTA, Politeness Strategy, Teaching Learning Process. This research studies about an analysis of face threatening acts and politeness strategy is performed by teachers and students in the EFL classroom interactions, that is conducted at eight grade of MTs Darul Hikmah Tulungagung in academic year 2019/2020. This research aims to observe more about the use of face threatening acts and politeness strategies by the teachers and students in the EFL classroom interaction. This researcher was conducted from July 2019 until March 2020 on teaching learning process at eight grade of MTs Darul Hikmah Tulungagung. This research used qualitative research. The subjects of this research were three teachers and their students, one female teacher and two male teachers. This research was conducted in three classes they were at eight F grade, eight B grade, and eight C grade. . The data were collected from nine times observation, then record the teacher’s utterances in explanation text material, and the last transcript the teacher’s utterances. The data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman (1994), they were data reduction, data display, conclusion and verification. The data were classified based on Brown and Levinson’s classification of FTA and Politeness Strategy (1987). This research used methodological triangulation to get the valid data by use interview. The research findings showed that the teacher performed FTA, three types of politeness strategy based on Brown and Levinson’s theory, namely positive politeness, negative politeness and off record. The result findings were 46 data which have been identified as face threatening acts by the teachers , there were 12 data by the students, and mentioned that there were 34 data which have been identified as politeness strategies performed by the teacher, and 6 data by the students. The person who did the most face threatening acts than the others was the first teacher, she performed in 10 times, and the students in their first teacher class was use most FTA than other, she performed in 3 times. The person who did most politeness strategies than the others was the third teacher, he used in 3 times, and students in the third teacher class, he performed politeness strategies use in 2 times. In the learning process, the teacher and students performed more face threatening act rather than performed politeness strategy, and the suggestion to the next researchers to conduct studies by obtaining data from different contexts and situations also use more theories in analyzing the data.
