Abstract
Saodah, Nurus. NIM 12203183289. 2022. Descriptive Grammar in Twitter’s hashtag of #Ukraine. Thesis, English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung, Advisor: Muh. Basuni, M.Pd. Key words: Descriptive Grammar, English Grammar The Twitter app is a way to communicate that lets you reach a lot of people with just one keyword or hashtag in a tweet. A while ago, the hashtag #Ukraine was popular because of the war between Russia and Ukraine. When people use English in tweets, they do not always follow the rules of standard English grammar. Because of this, a descriptive grammar analysis was done. This study's research question is: (1) How is the spoken structure of descriptive grammar in Twitter' s hashtag of #Ukraine?, (2) How is the written structure of descriptive grammar in Twitter' s hashtag #Ukraine?, (3) How is the combination of both spoken and written structure of descriptive grammar in Twitter' s hashtag of #Ukraine?. This is a descriptive qualitative study using a stylistic approach. This research was conducted on 31 people's tweets that used the #Ukraine or #Ukraina hashtags. The tweets were analyzed using the documentation method. The data was put together using a data sheet, and then it was analyzed. Researchers used a method called "triangulation" to check the data. The results showed that spoken structure often used slang, left out the subject, or left out "to be." Despite errors such as missing punctuation and typos, the tweeter employed the necessary language and tenses (formalism) in its textual structure. In the spoken and written structures, on the other hand, the tweeter used features from both structures. Even though some tweets had mistakes, that did not change the meaning of the message that was meant to be sent. These mistakes did not matter because descriptive grammar doesn't care about how people put together sentences when they talk.
