Abstract

ABSTRACT Zaqolbi, Noaliana, NIM 12203183143, An Analysis Of Character Values In English Textbook For Seventh Grade Students Entitled When English Rings A Bell. Thesis. English Education Departement. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University (UIN) Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Arina Shofiya, M.Pd. Keywords: Character Values, English Textbook, When English Ring a Bell Character education values are very important in education. In the process of teaching and learning process, it should be combined with character education in textbooks. So, this study discussed an analysis of character education values formulated by the Ministry of National Education (Kemendiknas) in the English textbook for junior high school for seventh-grade students published by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud). The textbook is entitled Bahasa Inggris: When Eglish Ring A Bell. The purpose of this research is to analyze the 18 character values represented in an English textbook “When English Rings a Bell” for the seventh grade students of Junior High School. This study used the qualitative research method using content analysis. The data was collected using documentation. The researcher conducted the documentation from an English textbook. The technique of collecting the data used in this research were techniques adapted from Creswell (2008) consisting of four stages, reading carefully, understanding specific part, marking certain parts, and make a description of the data. The result of the study showed that 18 character education values in the English textbook "When English Ring A Bell" were found in the text, pictures, and task instruction from this English textbook. The character education values found are religiousness, honesty, tolerance, discipline, perseverance, creativity, independence, democracy, curiosity, nationalism, patriotism, appreciation, friendship/communication, love of peace, reading interest, environmental awareness, social care, and responsibility. This result shows that character values are explicitly more dominant in this English textbook “When English Rings a Bell”.
