Keywords: English movie clip, listening skill, teaching listening There are four skills that must be mastered by English learners. One of them is listening skill. Listening skill can be defined as a skill to identify and understand what others are saying. This process involves understanding a speaker’s accent or pronunciation, the speaker’s grammar and vocabulary, and comprehension of meaning. Unlucky, many students still face some difficulties in listening. In other side, there are many methods that can be used to improve student’s listening skills effectively. One of the methods is using English movie clip. Using movie clip will make the students interested in joining the listening class. Learning English through movie clip are able to change the tedious ambiance in the class and they can provide a pleasant class environment so that students can develop their listening skills more easily. In this study, the researcher makes a boundary and focuses on finding out whether English movie clip is effective or not to increase students’ listening skills. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is significant difference score of students’ in listening skill at SMPN 1 Campurdarat Tulungagung that were taught by using English movie clip and those that were not taught by using English movie clip. This research uses a quantitative research approach with experimental research design. There are 64 students taken as sample in this research who are determined by using non-randomize sampling technique especially purposive sampling technique. The instrument used is listening test. The collected data are analyzed by using Independent Sample Test Formula of SPSS 22.0 program. The result of data analysis shows that the significance value (sig-2 tailed) is 0.850. It is more than 0,05. It means that H0 is rejected and H1 can’t be debated. Thus, it can be concluded that there is significant difference score of students’ listening skills between students that are taught by using English movie clip and those that are not taught by using English movie clip on the second grade at SMPN 1 Campurdarat Tulungagung. From the statements, we can know that English movie clip is effective to improve students’ listening skills on the second grade at SMPN 1 Campurdarat Tulungagung.
