Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training State Islamic University (UIN) Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Arina Shofiya, M.Pd. Keywords: Speaking, Strategy, Teaching Strategy Speaking is a crucial ability in acquiring English, so it is impossible to separate these skills from each other. Speaking is an important language skill to be mastered by everyone who wants to communicate. Speaking involves using words orally to convey a message, idea, or information to another person. Speaking is an important skill for a teacher in education because the teacher plays a role in transmitting knowledge, understanding students, motivating and engaging students, and building student communication skills. Therefore, teachers must use strategies to achieve learning objectives. The strategy used by the teacher in teaching speaking was to improve students speaking skills. The teaching strategy used was an approach by teachers to improve students speaking skills effectively and innovatively used to facilitate the development of students speaking skills. This research aims to find and describe; 1) What are strategies applied to teaching speaking. 2) How is the teaching strategy implemented. 3) What are the strengths and weaknesses of applying strategies to students speaking skills at Madrasah Aliyah Ma’arif Udanawu Blitar. The purpose of this study was; 1) To learn more about the strategies used in teaching speaking. 2) To find out the procedures used in the teaching strategies applied. 3) And to find out the strengths and weaknesses of the used strategies on students speaking skills at Madrasah Aliyah Ma’arif Udanawu Blitar. The design of this study was a descriptive design with a qualitative method. The data source of this research data was English teachers at Madrasah Aliyah Ma'arif Udanawu Blitar. The data from this study were obtained through interview, observation, and documentation. The analysis used included data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. To check the credibility of the data used sources triangulation and methodological triangulation of the data. By using sources triangulation, the researcher could reduce the lack of research, increase the validity and confidence of the results obtained. The result of this study was the English teachers used three strategies that were relevant to the theory from Harmer (2001), namely; acting from script, discussion, and role-play.
