Abstract

Reading is the most important skill for foreign language learners to master the academic context. While, reading comprehension is the ability to understand and interpret written text. It involves not only being able to decode words on a page but also understanding the meaning of the text,including the main idea,details,and purpose. With reading skills, students can understand information or gain knowledge from a text they read. But in reality some students find English difficult. Students who find it difficult to learn English because of a lack of interest and motivation in learning to read texts and difficulties in understanding texts because of a lack of vocabulary knowledge. A solution is needed in the process of teachingand learning reading. One of the applications used in learning is Quizizz. With this application, it can encourage students to learn in a fun way. The use of quizizz as a learning media in schools can help teachers in increasing student interest and also improve learning outcomes. The purpose of this research is to improve the eighth grade students' reading comprehension using the quizizz application at MTsN 1 Tulungagung. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR). This research has two cycles, each cycle consisting of planning, action,observation, and reflection. The subject of this research was carried out in class VIII G students, totaling 32 students. Data collected from observation sheets and student scores. From the teacher’s observation sheet, the teacher states that the use of Quizizz made students active and can improve students’ reading comprehension. The results of this study are there are 2 cycles in this study, each cycle consists of 2 meetings. At the first meeting explaining about Recount Text and the use of Quizizz, at the second meeting applying Quizizz by doing questions. In this study, the researcher set the criteria for the percentage of student success, namely 70% scored 75 or above 75. From cycle I, the percentage of students reached 53.1%. This was declared unsuccessful because it had not reached the success criteria and there were several aspects of reading comprehension that had not been achieved such as: identifying main idea, understanding vocabulary, and making inference. Then, in cycle 2, improvements were made in order to reach the criteria for the percentage of student success and to achieve aspects of reading comprehension that had not been achieved in cycle 1. In cycle 2, the percentage of student success increased to 84.4%. So that in this study the use of Quizizz learning media for eighth grade students of MTsN 1 Tulungagung can improve reading comprehension from various aspects of reading comprehension, namely identifying main idea, identifying supporting details, understanding vocabulary, identifying reference, and making inference. With a success percentage of 84.4% in cycle II and has reached the specified percentage of success.
