Keyword : Effectiveness, Frayer Model, Vocabulary Mastery In the learning English process, vocabulary plays an important role because it helps students be able to understand the information from written and spoken sources. Having sufficient mastery of vocabulary enables the learners to use language appropriately in terms of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Otherwise, the students will have difficulty expressing their ideas if they lack vocabulary. Because of the importance of vocabulary mastery, the learning activity should attract students’ interest and participation in learning vocabulary by employing a certain strategy. One strategy is to use the Frayer Model. The Frayer model is a vocabulary learning strategy that uses graphics in its development so that students can understand the definitions and concepts of words. This graphic media includes visual media, which functions to efficiently channel messages. The formulation of the research problem is using Frayer Model effective towards students vocabulary mastery of 8th grade at SMPN 2 Sumbergempol. The purpose of the study was to know the effectiveness of using Frayer Model towards students' vocabulary mastery of 8th grade at SMPN 2 Sumbergempol Tulungagung in academic years 2022/2023. The research design was used pre-experimental research design by using one group pre-test post-test with quantitative approach. The population are all students at Eight Grade of SMPN 2 Sumbergempol Tulungagung in academic years 2022/2023. Total number of population were 162 students. The sample was class VIII C which the total 34 students. The research instruments were using pre-test and post-test. The data analysis using Paired Sample T-test in IBM SPSS Statistics 26.0 version. The findings showed that the Frayer Model was effective in teaching vocabulary to the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Sumbergempol Tulungagung. The result showed that the students‘ score in vocabulary mastery before they were taught using Frayer Model was 72,97. While the students‘ score after they are taught using Frayer Model was 83,38. In addition, the significant p-value was smaller than the significant level (0,000<0,05) in other words, H_0 was rejected and H_a was accepted. The result, there is a significant effect of the Frayer Model on students' vocabulary mastery after being taught using Frayer Model. The Frayer Model was recommended by the researcher as an alternative strategy for increasing students' vocabulary mastery.
