Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University (UIN) Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah of Tulungagung. Advisor. Dr. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd. Keywords : Comic Book, Students’ Vocabulary Mastery. Vocabulary is central of language teaching and learning. It means that by mastering vocabulary, of course with grammar, the learners will produce so many sentence easily either in spoken or written one. They can also communicate with other people fluently and express their opinion or ideas conveniently. To make teaching vocabulary more interesting, good idea is needed. So in this study, the writer will use media. Comic is one of many media can improving student vocabulary mastery. Comic as a visual media is a media for effective learning to develop creativity readers, because there is an image illustration of a story that was delivered. The researcher applied comic book as media to improve students vocabulary. This research was aimed finding out whether there was a significant effectiveness of comic book in improving vocabulary mastery before and after given treatment. In this research, the research methodology was pre-experimental design with one group pre- test and post-test. The population of this research was the fifth grade students of MI Tarbiyatul Athfal Bedali. The sample of this research were one class consist 21 students. The researcher gave pre-test before treatment, and then gave post-test after conducting the treatments. The researcher analyzed the data using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) 29,0 Version to compute the data. From the data analysis computed by using SPSS, it was obtained that sig.< a = 0,00 < 0,05. Therefore, there was a significant effectiveness of comic book in teaching english vocabulary mastery at the fifth year at MI Tarbiyatul Athfal Bedali. Based on the calculation, descriptive statistics of post-test scores and pretest score it was found that there is the different means of pre-test and post-test. The mean of pre-test score is lower than post-test, mean score (56.29 < 81.29). It can be roughly seen that there is a gain of mean score from pre-test to post-test. However, it still needs to be statistically proven through hypothesis testing. As required in hypothesis, the p-value was smaller than or equal to the a (0.05). Based on the presentation above it can be concluded that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the Null Hypothesis is rejected. In conclusion teaching English vocabulary by using comic book is effective at the fifth year of MI Tarbiyatul Athfal Bedali.
