English Language and Teaching Program. School of Graduate Studies. State Islamic University Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah of Tulungagung. Advisors: Dr. Ida Isnawati, M.Pd and Dr. H. Nursamsu, M.Pd. Keywords: Error Analysis, Constructing, Sentence, Degrees of Comparison. In learning a foreign language, grammatical errors are natural and often unavoidable. For this reason, those errors need to be analyzed, so the types, sources, and causes of errors can be identified. Further, the solutions to overcome those errors can be found. There are three research problems in this study. Firstly, what types of errors are made by the students of Vocational High School 2 Tulungagung in constructing English sentences using degrees of comparison? Second, what sources of errors are made by the students of Vocational High School 2 Tulungagung in constructing English sentences using degrees of comparison? Third, why did the students of vocational High School 2 Tulungagung make some errors in constructing English sentences using degrees of comparison? To answer the formulation of the problems, the writer conducted qualitative research by analyzing test results supported by questionnaires. The results of the research showed the most frequent errors were misformation, namely 470 or around 81.88% of the total number of student errors. Omission errors occurred 60 times or 11.15%, and the least was addition 40 times or 6.97%. The students didn’t produce errors in misorder. Most students made errors in misformation because of the wrong usage of comparison formulas and also irregular forms of comparison. Meanwhile, the sources of errors made by the students of Vocational High school 2 Tulungagung is intralingual with a percentage of 41,29%. The second is communication strategies which are a percentage of 39.90%. The third is interlingual with a percentage of 17.60%, and the last is contextual learning with a percentage of 1.22%. The highest source of errors is the intralingual factor. Intralingual refers to the students' incomplete understanding of English and contextual learning. The results of the questionnaire show that there are some factors that cause the students’ errors in using degrees of comparison. First is the lack of knowledge about degrees of comparison. Students learn English only at school. They lack references for grammar. They were confused about distinguishing syllables. They found it hard to decide when to use more/most or add -er/-est, and which adjectives or adverbs have irregular comparisons. The other factors are teaching methods, lack of motivation, carelessness, and lack of self-confidence.
