Thesis. English Education Departmen. Faculty Of Tarbiyah and Teaching Education. State Islamic University (UIN) of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Ida Isnawati, M.Pd. Keywords: vocabulary, learning practices, vocabulary building. Vocabulary is a basic aspect that must be mastered before mastering other English skills. Vocabulary mastery is very important in language learning. The importance of vocabulary in language learning is also illustrated by Wilkins (Thornbury, 2002:13), who states that "without grammar, little can be conveyed; without vocabulary, nothing can be conveyed". There is a problem to be solved in this research namely: (1) What are the learning practice that support EFL students' vocabulary building at the Modern Islamic Boarding School Raden Paku Trenggalek? (2) How those practices do encourage them to build their vocab knowledge and increase their vocab number? (3.) What are the students' problems in learning practicesthatsupport EFL students‘ vocabulary building at Modern Islamic Boarding School Raden Paku Trenggalek? The purposes of this research are (1) To know the learning practice that support EFL students‘ vocabulary building at the Modern Islamic Boarding School Raden Paku Trenggalek. (2) To know how those learning practice can encourage EFL student to build their vocab knowledge and increase their vocab number. (3) To know the students' problems in learning practices that support EFL students‘ vocabulary building at Modern Islamic Boarding School Raden Paku Trenggalek. This research designed to obtain answers about the learning practices that support EFL students‘ vocabulary building at the Modern Islamic Boarding School Raden Paku Trenggalek. In connection with this statement, the design used is descriptive qualitative by collecting data, making descriptions and finally making conclusions. Moleong (2004; 3) states that qualitative research is ―a type of research which does not include any calculating or numbering‖. Bodgan and Taylor (in Moleong, 2004: 4) states that qualitative strategy is ―a research procedure, which procedur descriptive data in the form of written or oral words from people and their behavior that are observed‖. In this study, data were taken from three data collection methods, namely observation, interviews and documents. The findings show the learning practices that support the students' vocabulary building at the Raden Paku Modern Islamic Boarding School Trenggalek. In the findings of researchers based on the results of viii observations, documentation, and interviews, there are main activities that support the development of the students' vocabulary skills at the Raden Paku Modern Islamic Boarding School Trenggalek. There are three main categories: daily, weekly, and annual activities. Daily activities: (1) English day, (2) Vocabulary buiding practice, (3) conversation practice. Weekly activities: (1) Drilling vocabulary, (2) Grammar practice, (3) English lesson practice, (4) speech practice, and the finding in Annual activity is LCC (Language Camp Competation). This study also found several student problems in learning practices at Raden Paku Modern Islamic Boarding School Trenggalek. They are: grammar problems, lack of vocabulary, pronunciation problems, and low motivation. This research has also found several practical learning activities as a solution for Islamic boarding schools to overcome these problems. As with grammar questions, Islamic boarding schools provide grammar learning activitiesin KMI classes; for a lack of vocabulary, Islamic boarding schools also provide vocabulary building activities; for pronunciation, Islamic boarding schools provide speaking and conversation exercises to train students to speak; and finally, for low motivation, the teacher always tries to motivate and encourage students
