Keywords: effectiveness, cake application, speaking skill Cake is an application created by Playlist Corporation, with a device capable of 14 MB. This application offers a variety of English content in the form of videos and conversations narrated by native speakers. One of the skills mastered when learning a language is speaking, a lot of practice will affect how fluently a person speaks. The purpose of the cake application is to encourage children to study in a relaxed manner so that the subject matter will be more easily absorbed because of the accompanying media. The researcher focuses on one research problem formulation: Is the use of the Cake application effective on the speaking skills of the eighth-grade SMPN 2 Gondang students? The purpose of this study was to measure the effectiveness of cake application and sets clear expectations for the speaking abilities of the eighth-grade SMPN 2 Gondang students. The design of this research is an experimental design with a quantitative approach. The population of this research is the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Gondang. The sample is class VIII A which consists of 37 students. The tool used by the researcher is an oral assessment. Pre-test and post-test are the tests used in this research. The data analysis of this research used the independent sample t-test. The results of this study indicate that the use of cake application media is effective for speaking skills. It can be seen that the average score of the students' pre-test was 67.16 and the average score of the students' post-test was 73.78. The results of statistically significant calculations (2-tailed) from the Independent Sample. The T-test states that the significance value is 0.000. It can be interpreted that the significance value is smaller than the significance level (0.000<0.05). As a result, there was a significant difference in students' speaking skills before and after treatment with the cake application. Therefore, using cake application towards the speaking skills of eight grade students of SMPN 2 Gondang is effective. In other words, cake application can be used as an alternative medium to train speaking skills for students at the junior high school level.
