Abstract
Octa Layyin Afifa 12203183250.- EFL Students’ Anxiety In Public Speaking Performance Of The Four-Semester Students At UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatulah. Bachelor Tesis . English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training State UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Dwi Astuti Wahyu Nurhayati, SS, M.Pd. Keywords: Public Speaking, Anxiety, Performances Public speaking by many people often causes speaking anxiety, which causes students to fail to perform optimally. For English language learners, speaking is one of the most important skills they need to develop. This study was conducted to investigate the speaking anxiety of 4th semester English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training State UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Specifically, it seeks to identify what factors can cause anxiety in the English learning environment and the level of anxiety experienced by students. This study uses a qualitative method and a case study. The researcher chose a sample with a purposive sampling technique using a checklist observation checklist, where five out of 40 respondents experienced high levels. So the researcher interviewed five respondents. Each interview was used to determine the factors that caused students' anxiety about their speaking performance. An observation checklist was used to determine the level of student anxiety regarding speaking performance. While the researcher analyze data using descriptive-qualitative data analysis, The results showed that there were two factors causing student anxiety in speaking performances, internal factors such as; Lack of Self-Confidence, Feelings of Shame, Motivation and Fear of Making Mistakes and external factors Lack of Preparation, Limited Vocabulary, cliques, and shyness, As well as the level of anxiety in 4th semester students of class 4 E, Department of English Tadris, Faculty of Tarbiyah, and Teaching Sciences UIN Syaid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung, with a total of 40 students at a low level, with the following results: there are 25 students who experience low level anxiety,10 students experience Octa Layyin Afifa 12203183250.- EFL Students’ Anxiety In Public Speaking Performance Of The Four-Semester Students At UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatulah.
