Keywords: Effectiveness, Alphabet Race Game, Vocabulary English vocabulary is one of the elements in teaching English at intermediate class or Junior High School. Vocabulary is the most important element that will become the basic competence in order to get other competences like listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Many students consider learning vocabulary as a tedious job. Because of that, the teacher should look for an effective technique to make learning vocabulary easier, more pleasant, and enjoyable. So the teacher should be able to find and use the right technique. Which suitable with the studentscondition. One of technique using in teaching vocabulary is Alphabet Race Game Technique. Alphabet Race Game is a game to practice spelling of vocabulary items. Through this Alphabet Race Game Technique, the students find it easier to understand and remember vocabularies that have been taught The formulation of the research problems were: 1) how is the students’ vocabulary achievement before being taught using Alphabet Race Games technique? 2) How is the students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught using Alphabet Race Games technique? 3) Is there any significant difference score before and after being taught using Alphabet Race Games technique? The purpose of this study were: 1) find out the students’ vocabulary achievement before being taught using Alphabet Race Games technique, 2) find out the students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught using Alphabet Race Games technique, 3) find out the significant difference score before and after being taught using Alphabet Race Games technique. Research method: (1) The research design were pre experimental design with quantitative approach, (2) The population of this research were all students of seventh grade at MTs Wahid HasyimSetinggil, (3) The sample were seventh B class consisting of 20 students, (4) The research instrument used in this research was test (pre-test and post-test) and the data collected through test was analyzed using T-test formula. The result of the research showed that the mean of the students’ vocabulary achievement before being taught by using alphabet race game technique were 63.76. While the mean of the students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught by using alphabet race game technique were 74.00. the result of tcount14.525, after comparing with ttable 2.640 is greater than the ttable (14.525>2.640). This means that (Ho) which states that there is no any significant difference on the students’ vocabulary achievement before and after being taught using Alphabet Race Games technique were rejected.(Ha) which states that there is any significant difference on the students’ vocabulary Achievement before and after being taught ii using Alphabet Race Games technique were accepted. Whereas, In other words, alphabet race game technique was effective to teaching vocabulary at Mts Wahid HasyimSetinggil.
