Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the English components that define the total number of words in a language. In order to communicate well, students need to have a large vocabulary. The Objective of this research is to find out the effectiveness of poster media on the vocabulary mastery of the students Grade VIII at MTs Nurul Hikmah Haurgeulis. The researcher wants to find out if poster can affect students’ vocabulary mastery. This thesis entitled The Effectiveness of Using Poster Media on the Eighth Grade Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at MTs Nurul Hikmah Haurgeulis was aimed to find out the effect of using poster media on students vocabulary mastery. The design of this research was Pre-experimental research design with one group pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test. The subjects of this research were grade VIII C students at MTs Nurul Hikmah Haurgeulis which consists of 20 students. Based on the findings of this research, posters were effective media to students vocabulary mastery. It can be proved by the result of the data analysis using descriptive statistics to analyze the mean score pre-test and the mean score of post-test to see the significant difference between pre-test and post-test. The mean of the pre-test was 19.15. While the mean score of post-test was 29.30, it means that the mean score of post-test was higher than the mean score of pre-test. And it means that the use of poster media has caused students to master vocabulary. Besides analyzing the mean score of pre-test and post-test, the researcher also used the paired sample t-test to analyze the hypothesis. The output of paired t-test analysis is the p-value/ Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.000 was less than 0.05 (standard of significant level): 0.000<0.05, it means that the null hypothesis (H0) could be rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Hα) can be accepted and it can be concluded that using poster media was effective to students’ vocabulary mastery. The use of poster as a learning media is effective to the students’ vocabulary mastery at MTs Nurul Hikmah Haurgeulis.
