Keyword : Improving, Reading, Sight Words Strategy Reading is the most important activities in each lesson, especially in learning English. Because Reading is a significant part of learning. It is a fundamental requirement in any field or subject from language to science and math. However, many people fail to realize. Many students and even adults think that reading is boring and just a waste of time. They think that reading is boring because they don’t know that by reading they can gain the knowledge of the world, and by reading they can learn new things, new places, new people, and new culture. Besides, reading English text can enlarge the students prononciation and vocabulary. By reading the students learn about prononciation in reading text and vocabulary from the text. It can help the students to read the text fluently and learn about that foreign language easily. This research concerned on the application of Sight Words Strategy in solving the students’ reading fluency. Sight words strategy is one of kinds drilling method. Besides, drilling it self used to help the students read the words fluently and accuratelly with good pronounciation. Here, Sight Words Strategy was used to solve the students’ problem which found in preliminary study. In teaching reading, the students or the readers had to considered their ability in reading the text, such as speed, accuracy, intonation, pronounciation, and prosody. This needs the strategy which cover all aspects. Sight Words Strategy can become one alternative for teacher to used in teaching and learning processof reading. The formulation of the research problem were: How can Sight Word Teaching Strategy Improve the Students’ Reading Fluency of second grade at SMAN 1 NGUNUT? The purpose of this research were: to Improve Students’ Reading Fluency by using Sight Word Teaching Strategy of second grade at SMAN 1 NGUNUT. Research method: 1) Research design of this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR), 2) The subject of this study were the students of second grade social IV of SMAN 1 NGUNUT, 3) The research instruments were observation, interview, test, and field note, 4) The research procedures of this research consisted of four stages, there are planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting, 5) The criteria of success were determined in two terms: a) The students can read fluently and accuratelly at least 70% from the whole short passage given by the researcher. b) The students get score 75 as the minimum standard reading fluency. The result of employing the Sight Words Strategy above showed that the strategy was effective to solve the students’ problem in reading and can improve the students’ reading fluency and also students’ scores in reading the text. This strategy required in two cycles to be successful. From the cycle I, the students’ reading fluency and the students’ scores have not reached the criteria of success. The result showed that there were 17 out of 29 students can’t pass the test, because they got the scores under 75 as the minimum grade scores. It happen because in cycle I, the text can’t make the students interest, beside the students its look like badmood when they face the text, and also the students found that in the text there are more difficult or unfamiliar words to read. In addition, students enthusiasm and students behavior in teaching reading can’t activelly yet. Then, the students improve their interest, enthusiasm, and ability when the strategy modified. The modified strategy by gave facility for the students to read the text at home and they can increase their ability by giving underline the difficult words, than it can consuled before reading test. The students improve their enthusiasm and ability in teaching reading. Based on enthusiasm, the students can pay attention on teachers’ explanation, than the students more interesting in reading the text, because the test based on their choice. While, based on ability, the students can increase their speed, accuracy, intonation, pronounciation, and prosody when the modified strategy used in reading text. Based on the researcher modified strategy, the researcher continued to the cycle II, because in cycle 1 the result can’t reachedthe criteria of success yet. The result of cycle II showed that most of the students passed in reading text, there were showed that 24 out of 29 students reached the criteria of success, it happen because the researcher modified the strategy. By modifated the strategy, the students more interest in reading the text, so they can reached the criteria of success.Thus, based on the result of cycle II, the Sight Words strategy is an effective innovative strategy to solve students’ reading fluency and can increase the students’ ability in reading the text, and also can improve the students scores in reading fluncy.
