English Education Department. State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Erna Iftanti, SS., M.Pd. Keywords: Students’ Writing Skill, Recount Text, Four Square Writing Method. Writing is an important skill to mastered but the skill is not easy and also complicated language skill to learn because the learners must pay attention to some elements in writing such as vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and the coherences among sentences. The students often find difficulty in writing. In this case, they assume that writing is a boring activity. They are often afraid of making mistakes in grammar, diction, and structure of paragraph. They are also feeling difficult to express their ideas while they write a paragraph. One of writing method that can help improve students’ writing skill is Four Square Writing Method. Four Square Writing Method is one method offered in teaching writing that leads students to organize, compose informations and concepts, as well as promote thinking about relationships among concepts before they start to write. The objectives of the research were to find out the improvement of students’ skill in writing recount text by using Four Square Writing Method to the tenth grade students of SMK Islam 1 Durenan. The research design was Classroom Action Research (CAR). It was conducted one cycle and, in the cycle, consisted of two meetings and implicated four steps that were planning, action, observation and reflection. The study held from 16 May 2023 until 19 May 2023. The research data were collected by using observation, interview and test. The subject of the research was a tenth grade students of SMK Islam 1 Durenan. The samples were X AKL class which consisted of 15 students. The result showed that using Four Square Writing Method were positive improvements in students’ writing skill during teaching learning process through the step: Initially, the teacher provided an explanation of the Four Square Writing Method to the students. Following that, each student received a paper containing a four square graphic organizer. In the next step, the teacher presented a topic related to the students' past experiences. Finally, the teacher instructed the students to generate their ideas and write them down on the graphic organizer paper. So, it can be concluded that teaching recount text by using Four Square Writing Method improved students’ writing skill.
