Keywords: Challenges, Teaching English, Merdeka curriculum The goal of teaching and learning english in schools is to improve students understanding and skill in the language. Curriculum can be interpreted as an idea, an assumption, or a principle that becomes the basis or starting point in developing the curriculum. The government is shifting from teacher-centred education (k13) to the Merdeka curriculum that students are the axis or pivotal point of education. This research is focuses on the challenges of teaching english using Merdeka curriculum at SMK Sore Tulungagung. The data sources of this research are english teachers grade x. This research used a qualitative approach with this type of research case study. This research was conducted by using an interview in this research is a semi-structured interview. Based on the interview this research demonstrate the four (4) challenges encountered by english teachers as foreign league teachers in teaching english by using the Merdeka curriculum at SMK Sore Tulungagung. The challenges are confusion in creating teaching module, improving and fulfilling teaching tools, the influence of teacher age on curriculum changes, and transition of student character diversity. The research also explains how to overcome existing problems. The overcome are provision of annual workshop, creating a teaching module preparation team, and fulfilment of activities, facilities and infrastructure. The researcher concludes that the Merdeka curriculum is not ready enough to be implemented at SMK Sore Tulungagung at the very moment. It does not mean that the Merdeka curriculum is not an excellent curriculum to implement in Indonesia. But, at the moment, the transition was too fast that the preparation did not go well spread and complete.
