Undeniably, K-POP culture has become a phenomenon that most of the countries in the world are experiencing for the past few years. The massive development of this culture has made the people, including students, around the world to make a certain community which they usually call it as fandom. The huge demand of their addiction of K-POP has also led to the appearance of many English websites providing those so-called fans of K-POP with many current issues and news related to K-POP. The phenomenon of K-Pop has unconsciously brought impact to those non-English-speaking countries students to develop their proficiency in English, specifically in term of vocabulary. The qualitative research design that the researcher selects for the study is ethnography. The subjects of this research involve a group of students in their teenage ranging from the age of 15 to 20 who share the same interest, as in this case is K-POP. Interview is employed to collect more detailed information or data about the students’ views on K-pop in supporting their interest on hyping K-pop and how it contributes to their vocabulary mastery. The result of this study has exposed that K-pop is not merely a source of entertainment, more than that it is also a media to learn English independently. The interest-based activities related to hyping into K-pop is concluded to lead to the contribution of the students’ vocabulary mastery. The mentioned activities are watching K-pop related variety shows/talk shows with English subtitles, reading K-pop related news in English in a particular websites or social medias, reading the English translation of the K-pop songs, giving/writing comments on a K-pop video on Youtube or Tiktok, listening to some English phrases or sentences in k-pop song lyrics and watching the live session of the artist in a certain social media (e.g : Instagram, Vlive).
