Keywords: Teacher Strategies, Teaching Reading Comprehension, Attracting Students' Reading Interest Reading is referred to as a receptive skill because it involves receiving information. Reading is among the basic skills that students must learn. All academic- related activities include reading. With reading comprehension is an urgency in the achievement of one's studies. The strategies used by the teacher are also very much needed in learning activities. With the aim of establishing EFL students' ability in reading comprehension. Through strategies in reading comprehension that teachers use can assist in attracting students' interest in reading. With the implementation of teaching strategies in reading comprehension is needed to make students more interested in reading, students are enthusiastic about participating in reading learning activities in class, increase information (vocabulary) and can understand the contents of an English text. Based on this background, the focus of this study are: (1) What strategies do teachers use in teaching reading comprehension to attract the EFL students' interest in reading at SMPN 2 Ngantru Tulungagung? (2) How are teachers' strategies in teaching reading comprehension implemented to attract the EFL students' interest in reading at SMPN 2 Ngantru Tulungagung? The research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative research that seeks to describe and find data related to teachers' strategies in teaching reading comprehension to attract the EFL students' interest in reading at SMPN 2 Ngantru Tulungagung. The methods used for data collection were observation and in-depth interviews. Data analysis was conducted by organising data into categories, breaking it down into units, synthesising with inductive methods into three steps, namely data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification stages. Descriptive- qualitative research was used in this study, with a case study research type. The results showed that there are several strategies used by English teacher in teaching reading comprehension to attract the EFL students' interest in reading. These strategies are discussion, scaffolding and gallery walk. Discussion strategy is a way for the teacher and students to learn from each other, help each other, and find solutions together. At a later stage, the implementation of discussion strategy in teaching reading comprehension can be used by the teacher to attract the EFL students' interest in reading. Scaffolding strategy is a teacher intervention to students that enables the development of learning ability. With the help of the teacher or more competent classmates, students who initially have difficulties will more easily master reading comprehension skills. In the next stage, the implementation of scaffolding strategy in teaching reading comprehension can be used by the teacher to attract the EFL students' interest in reading. The gallery walk strategy is a way for the teacher to facilitate students to master reading comprehension with the help of illustrated text. The presence of pictures in a reading passage helps seventh graders to interpret and understand the meaning of the passage easily. With the help of picture text, students will find it easier to describe something using their own language with the assistance of the teacher. At a later stage, the implementation of gallery walk strategy in teaching reading comprehension can be used by the teacher to attract the EFL students' interest in reading.
