Abstract

Nur Rahmawati, Ria. Registered Number. 12203193076. 2023. “The Effect of Circuit Learning Model on the Eight Grade Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at SMPN 2 Sumbergempol”. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. H. Nursamsu, M. Pd. Keywords: Vocabulary, Effectiveness, Circuit Learning Model Vocabulary is a collection of words in English that are familiar and commonly used in everyday life. Learning vocabulary is a person's principal capital to compose or create new sentences and also help master other fields. Mastering a large vocabulary will help us develop verbal communication skills. Therefore, teachers can use exciting methods to motivate students to learn English, especially vocabulary in Circuit Learning, which can be used not only to help students more easily memorize foreign words but also to strengthen students' vocabulary mastery. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Circuit Learning Model on the Vocabulary Mastery of Eighth Grade Students at SMPN 2 Sumbergempol. The research problem formulation is: Are there any significantly different scores of the eighth-grade students' vocabulary mastery with and without being taught using a circuit learning model at SMPN 2 Sumbergempol? This study aimed to determine whether there were significant differences in students' vocabulary mastery with and without being taught using the Circuit Learning Model in eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Sumbergempol. The research design uses a quasi-experimental method using two pre-test and post-test groups with a quantitative research approach. The population of this study was all eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Sumbergempol. The sample is students of class VIII C and VIII D of SMPN 2 Sumbergempol, with 64 students. Simple random sampling was used to select the research sample. The instrument used to collect data is a vocabulary test. Data is calculated using SPSS version 26. This study's results indicate significant differences in student scores before and after being taught using the Circuit Learning Model. This can be seen from the average score of students from their vocabulary mastery before using the Circuit Learning Model, which is 65.50, and after being taught using the Circuit Learning Model, is 84.81. Calculation of the data from the T-test shows that the P-value (Sig) is 0.000 and is less than 0.05 (0.000 <0.005). This indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected, meaning that the theory states that the post-test average is less than or equal to the pre-test average, while the alternative idea (Ha) is accepted; it means that the post-test mean is higher than the pre-test mean. It can be concluded that the Circuit Learning Model is an effective alternative for teaching vocabulary mastery in the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Sumbergempol.
