Faculty of Education and Teacher Training. State Islamic University Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Susanto, S.S, M.Pd. Keyword: K-Pop, Speaking, Language K-Pop or Korean Pop music has become a popular global phenomenon in many parts of the world, including Indonesia. In addition to being entertainment, K-Pop fans commonly referred to as K-Popers show great interest and are motivated in learning to speak English through the K-Pop phenomenon. Where speaking English is said to be a difficult skill because it involves pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar, it is not a difficult thing because the K-Pop phenomenon becomes a medium in improving K-Popers' English speaking ability. This study aims to explore how the K-Pop phenomenon can improve English speaking skills. The problem formulations of this research are: 1) What K-Pop phenomenon allow K-Popers to practice speaking? 2) What K-Pop content that allow K-Popers to practice speaking? 3) How do K-Popers improve their speaking skills by utilizing K-Pop phenomena and contents? Research methods: 1) the research design in this study is a descriptive design with a qualitative approach. 2) The subject of this research is K-Popers from sixth semester students of English Education Department. Data collection procedure: 1) researchers collected data through in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. 2) Researchers selected subjects, conducted interviews, transcribed interview results. Selected and focused on data related to the research problem. 3) Researchers show selected data in descriptive form. 4) Drawing conclusions based on the analyzed data. The findings of this study include three things. First, it shows that there are three phenomena in K-Pop that K-Popers use to train their English speaking, namely; bias birthday project, comeback, fanwar, and relaxing after fanwar. Second, the K-Pop contents that K-Popers use to practice their English speaking are; variety shows, English podcasts, and interviews. Finally, it is known that K-Popers have four ways to improve their English speaking skills by watching content using English translation, imitating and repeating English words/sentences, speaking alone, and conversation with fellow K-Popers who are native speakers.
