Pd Key words: vocabulary self collection (VSC) strategy, effectiveness, vocabulary, vocabulary mastery Vocabulary is one of the basic things that is very important for students to learn in learning English. One of the learning strategies that students can use in learning and expanding vocabulary is the Vocabulary Self Collection (VSC) Strategy. Besides being able to help students master vocabulary, this strategy can also increase enthusiasm for learning vocabulary. Therefore, This research was conducted to prove and explore the effect of using the Vocabulary Self Collection (VSC) Strategy on students' vocabulary mastery abilities in learning English. The purpose of this study was to determine the significant difference in scores on the vocabulary mastery of seventh grade students at SMP Muallimin Wonodadi Blitar before and after being taught using the vocabulary self-collection (VSC) strategy. The researcher used a pre-experimental design with a quantitative approach. The population used was all seventh grade students at SMP Muallimin Wonodadi Blitar. The research sample was one class consisting of 30 students as the experimental group. The instrument of this study is a vocabulary test with multiple choice modes. Before being given treatment the experimental group did a vocabulary test. Then after the pre-test the experimental group got treatment using the Vocabulary Self Collection (VSC) Strategy. After receiving treatment, the experimental group carried out a post-test. The purpose of carrying out the post-post test is so that researchers can find out whether there is a significant difference in scores between students before and after being taught using the Vocabulary Self Collection (VSC) Strategy. The researcher applied a t-test statistical analysis using SPSS to calculate the data. The results showed that there were significant differences in students scores before and after being taught by using Vocabulary Self Collection (VSC) Strategy. The students average score in the pre-test before being taught using the Vocabulary Self Collection (VSC) Strategy was 76.67 and the average score in the post-test after being taught using the Vocabulary Self Collection (VSC) Strategy was 84. 93. From this data, the researcher conclude the use of Vocabulary Self Collection (VSC) Strategy can improve students’ vocabulary score and students vocabulary mastery. Beside that, Vocabulary Self Collection can increase students’ motivation in learning vocabulary.
