Abstract

Keyword: Slang words, Sociolinguistic Language is an instrument from one individual to others individual. Human need a communication to fulfil social needs. Slang word usually used to be known and used by part of social needs in the specific social group or community where it originates. Slang is a type of informal language that is used by a particular group of people, often to express themselves in a way that is different from standard language. The research problem of this research is “What are types of slang word used by characters in the Uncle Drew Movie? “and “What are functions of slang word uttered by characters in Uncle Drew Movie?”. The objective of this research is found out the types of slang word and functions of slang word utterance by characters of the movie. The researcher employed a qualitative descriptive method to identify and categorize the slang words used in the movie. The technique data are (1) Script Acquisition, Watch the movie first and obtain the script of the movie "Uncle Drew" from a reliable source. (2) Identification of Slang Words, read through the script to identify slang words used by the characters. (3) Data Transcription, Transcribe the identified slang words. (4) Data Analysis, Analyze the transcribed slang words using a qualitative descriptive method. The findings reveal that the movie contains 26 slang words, which are categorized into Allan and Burridge theory: fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym, and clipping types. The study also examines the functions of slang words in the movie, including group and subject, secrecy and privacy, informality, playfulness and humour, freshness and novelty, and desire to impress and faddishness. The results provide insights into the use of slang words in the movie and their significance in shaping cultural identity.   ABSTRAK Ilman, Yusuf Maulana. Kata Kunci: Bahasa gaul (slang), sociolinguistic Bahasa adalah instrumen dari satu individu ke individu lain. Manusia membutuhkan komunikasi untuk memenuhi kebutuhan sosial. Kata gaul biasanya digunakan untuk dikenal dan digunakan oleh bagian dari kebutuhan sosial dalam kelompok sosial tertentu atau komunitas di mana ia berasal. Bahasa gaul adalah jenis bahasa informal yang digunakan oleh sekelompok orang tertentu, seringkali untuk mengekspresikan diri dengan cara yang berbeda dari bahasa standar. Rumusan masalah dari penelitian ini adalah "Apa saja jenis kata slang yang digunakan oleh karakter dalam Uncle Drew Movie?" dan "Apa fungsi kata slang yang diucapkan oleh karakter dalam Uncle Drew Movie?". Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui jenis-jenis kata slang dan fungsi ucapan kata slang oleh tokoh-tokoh di film ini. Peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk mengidentifikasi dan mengkategorikan kata-kata slang yang digunakan dalam film. Data tekniknya adalah (1) Memperoleh Skrip, dengan menonton filmnya terlebih dahulu dan mendapatkan naskah film "Uncle Drew" dari sumber yang terpercaya. (2) Identifikasi Kata Slang, baca naskah untuk mengidentifikasi kata-kata slang yang digunakan oleh karakter. (3) Transkripsi Data, Transkripsikan kata-kata slang yang diidentifikasi. (4) Analisis Data, Analisis kata-kata slang yang ditranskripsikan menggunakan metode diskriptif qualitative. Temuan mengungkapkan bahwa film ini berisi 26 kata slang, yang dikategorikan ke dalam jenis fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym, and clipping. Studi ini juga meneliti fungsi kata-kata slang dalam film, termasuk group dan subject, secrecy dan privacy, informality, playfulness dan humor, freshness dan novelty, dan desire to impress and faddishness. Hasilnya memberikan wawasan tentang penggunaan kata-kata slang dalam film dan signifikansinya dalam membentuk identitas sosial.
