Abstract

Students are starting to get used to the current autonomous learning system. This habit emerged because of Covid 19, which required students to study from home for three years. In autonomous learning, students are required to be able to learn on their own by determining their own needs. One of the media used by students in autonomous learning is YouTube. YouTube media can provide learning media for students in video format. From YouTube, there are many YouTube channels that provide learning tutorial videos. One of them is MANGSULI TV which facilitates students who have an autonomous learning system. In the videos on MANGSULI TV, it is easy for students to learn English, especially those who are still at the elementary level. So, MANGSULI TV can be a medium for students to learn English autonomously. This research has type of case study research, generally aims to discover 1) What learning strategies are employed by autonomous learners in utilizing MANGSULI TV to learn English autonomously? 2) To what extent does MANGSULI TV as a platform for learning stimulate the autonomous learners in learning English autonomously? The research method used is qualitative descriptive research. The research was conducted on three viewers or students who had used MANGSULI TV videos for their autonomous learning in the time of the last five months to 3 years. Then, data was collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis to determine autonomous learners' strategies and the impact they felt by using videos from MANGSULI TV. The findings are autonomous learners' strategies in O'Malley and Chamot's theory. (1) Cognitive strategies include translation, repetition, recording, and concluding for (2) metacognitive strategies autonomous learners use: planning learning goals, monitoring learning tasks, and evaluating their learning results. Apart from that, (3) social mediation strategies include cooperation, asking for clarification, and accepting help These findings represent autonomous learner strategies in O'Malley and Chamot's theory. (1) Cognitive strategies include translation, repetition, recording, and inference. (2) Metacognitive strategies used by autonomous learners: planning learning goals, monitoring learning tasks, and evaluating learning outcomes. In addition, (3) social mediation strategies include cooperation, asking for clarification, and receiving help. Then, the following findings relate to the extent to which MANGSULI TV as a learning platform stimulates autonomous learners. Autonomous learners can be well helped because MANGSULI TV provides easy access, exciting videos for autonomous learners, facilitates comments columns to connect with creators, and the channel has continuous video. Videos, which help determine students' autonomous study targets and time. By using MANGSULI TV, autonomous learners were helped in their learning process because it provides repeat video and determine videos that suit their needs. MANGSULI TV also complements the learning that has been previously delivered at school because it provides more in-depth and continuous explanations.
