Abstract

The Teaching Internship Program (PPL) is a course that provides students with the opportunity to practice and develop their teaching skills in a real school context. Zeichner (2010) suggests that teaching internships are also an important component in teacher education programs, because they provide students with the opportunity to gain real teaching experience at school. This research aimed to determine the students’ perceptions and practice of using lesson study in teaching internship programs. The method used by researchers is a mixed method of sequential explanation which displays descriptive analysis of quantitative data and in-depth understanding through qualitative data. Quantitative data collection was modified from Khan et al.'s theory of perception. (2021). The data is in the form of a closed questionnaire. The instrument was designed on a 5 Likert scale at the stages "strongly disagree" to "strongly agree."; Qualitative data was conducted based on ten artificial questions that supported quantitative data. The researcher used data obtained from questionnaires distributed to 32 respondents by random sampling as quantitative data. Then qualitative data was obtained from the results of interviews with 5 respondents who were willing to conduct interview sessions and were considered to represent other respondents. The research results show that students have a positive perspective towards each phase of lesson study. And the practice of using lesson study has a positive impact on internship students. However, they want the application of lesson study to be more evenly distributed to all students. However, the students were satisfied with the implementation of lesson study in the teaching internship program at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung.
