Prameswari, Atika Diah Ayu. Student Registered Number. 126203202146. Students’ Perception on the Use of DeepL in Writing Academic Paper at UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. English Education Department, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, State Islamic University of Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Hj. Nanik Sri Rahayu, M.Pd Keywords: Students’ Perception, DeepL, Academic Paper Writing academic paper can be a challenging task for many students, particularly EFL students. These difficulties often arise from the lack of vocabulary, grammar, and organization of idea, which can hinder their ability to express complex concepts effectively. To address the challenges, many students utilize DeepL, a writing tool which not only provides highly accurate translation results but also offers alternative phrasing suggestions, vocabulary options, writing tone and style adjustment, also grammar support to enhance their writing quality. Therefore, this study aims to explore how students’ perceive on DeepL in their article writing process. This research employs quantitative descriptive approach with a survey design. The study involved distributing a questionnaire to 150 semester students in the fifth semester of English Education Department at the UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung in 2024/2025 academic year. The questionnaire gathered data on students’ views regarding the effectiveness, accessibility and usability, motivation, challenges, and strategies of using DeepL in writing academic paper. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistical method with the aid of IBM SPSS 21.0 in order to determine the students' responses. The findings indicate that most students view DeepL positively in assisting them writing academic paper, specifically articles. Additionally, according to the finding the mean score from the first indicator is 4.02 which indicated that students have positive response towards the effectiveness of DeepL in writing article. Next, the mean score from the second indicator is 4.18 which also can be interpreted as positive response regarding to the usability and accessibility of DeepL in writing article. The third indicator, which is about the motivation in completing article using DeepL, also showed a positive response with the total of mean 3.73. In contrast, the mean score of fourth indicator is 2.54 which can be interpreted as negative perception on the challenges on the use of DeepL. Lastly, the fifth indicator showed a positive response regarding to the strategies on the use of DeepL with the mean score 3.43.
