Abstract
The results of this study show that English teachers at MTs Miftahul Huda use several strategies to motivate students. (1) The strategies used by teachers include: giving score, reward, competition, ego-involvement, giving test, showing the result, praise, punishment, recognizing the purposes. (2) The factors that support teachers in motivating students are the physical condition of healthy students, the psychological factor of students' intelligence and their interest in English, the social environment of students at school who are friends with students who are active in learning, and conditions outside the social environment, namely English learning hours in the morning. (3) Meanwhile, the teacher's inhibiting factors in motivating students are the physical condition of unhealthy students, the psychological condition of students who lack confidence, the social environment of students at school who are friends with students who are busy and do not pay attention to learning, conditions outside the social environment where the teacher gets a teaching schedule in the afternoon.
