Advisors: Dr. Sukarsono,M.Pd and Dr. Arina Sofiya, M.Pd Key Words: effective, IBL, learn, reading achievement, The ability to comprehend text is a vital skill that strengthen students' academic success and lifelong learning. At MTsN 2 Kediri, students often face difficulties in mastering reading proficiency, largely due to traditional teaching methods that fail to actively engage them in the learning process. To address these challenges, inquiry-based learning has been proposed as an effective instructional approach. Inquiry-based learning encourages students to explore, ask questions, and collaborate with peers, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of reading materials. Research question focuses on whether there is any significant difference in the mean scores of students who are taught by IBL and traditional lecture methods. By examining this question, the research seeks to provide insights into the potential benefits of IBL in improving reading skills within Islamic educational contexts. Population of this study is students from eight grade of MTsN 2 Kediri, as sample is VIII-J for experimental group, VIII-K for control group and used cluster random sampling. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of inquiry-based learning on reading achievement at MTsN 2 Kediri. This research applies quasi experimental design to investigates the effects of IBL on reading achievement. The result of data analysis using independent sample t-test found that there was any significant different in mean score of both groups, experimental was 82 and control group was 72. The p-value is less than 0.05, which means the result is statistically significant at the 5% significance level. This indicates strong evidence against the null hypothesis, so you would reject the null hypothesis. The result of N-gain score identified that experimental score was 0,45 and score of control group was 0,17 on reading achievement as a teaching method. Based on the result of independent sample t-test and N-gain score can be concluded that inquiry-based learning method is effective on reading achievement at MTsN 2 Kediri.
