Abstract

Vocabulary plays a vital role in English language learning, as it supports students in developing their speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills This study was designed to explore the correlation between PowerPoint score as visual media and student’s vocabulary definition ability. The research question addressed is whether there is a significant correlation between using PowerPoint as a visual learning and the vocabulary definition of the eight graders. The main objective is to identify if PowerPoint can effectively enhance vocabulary learning in the classroom setting. This research uses a quantitative correlational method was employed in the research, with data collected through questionnaires and vocabulary tests. The participants were 35 eighth-grade students selected using random sampling. Data analysis was carried out using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The analysis revealed a correlation coefficient of 0.888 and a significance value of 0.000, indicating a strong and positive relationship between the two variables. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that PowerPoint score and students’ vocabulary definition ability have a high correlation, with a positive correlation direction. The use of multimedia elements in PowerPoint helps students better understand and retain new words. It is recommended that teachers incorporate PowerPoint more frequently in vocabulary lessons to increase learning motivation. Future research is encouraged to examine other types of visual media or to study the long-term impact of such tools on language skills.
