Many 7th grade students of MTs Darul Hikmah experience difficulties and lack of confidence when speaking English, which is caused by internal and external factors. Therefore, the role of the teacher is crucial in designing and implementing active and engaging learning strategies to enhance students' confidence, which is a key success factor in English learning. The research problem in this study are: (1) What strategies do teachers' use to enhance students' self-confidence in speaking English at MTs Darul Hikmah? (2) What are the benefits of the strategies used by teachers to enhance students' self-confidence at MTs Darul Hikmah? (3) What are the factors that influence teachers' decisions on strategies to enhance students' self-confidence in speaking English at MTs Darul Hikmah? The researcher used a qualitative descriptive with a case study approach. To explore the strategy of enhancing self confidence in speaking English on grade 7 students of MTs Darul Hikmah. The data sources in this study are the results of non-participant observations and semi-structured interviews with English teachers (M and N) with diverse academic backgrounds and teaching experiences as research subjects, as well as five MTs 7th grade students who experience difficulties and lack confidence when speaking English in class or in public. The result showed that teachers at MTs Darul Hikmah Tawangsari Tulungagung use four main strategies to increase students’ self confidence in speaking English; small group discussions, storytelling, drilling, and role playing. These strategies aim to improve active communication, increase vocabulary, and train students’ fluency. After the implementation of these strategies, students gained benefits such as increased confidence, the ability to identify weak areas in speaking, and the opportunity to practice speaking directly. Role playing is a strategy that is considered to provide significant benefits to students because it can develop fluency in real situations and reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence. In addition, factors that influence teachers in choosing strategies include student characteristics such as shyness or fear of making mistakes, school facilities and infrastructure, and environmental conditions.
