The objectives of this research were to: 1) To understand the request strategies that the characters in the Coraline movie transcript employ. 2) To understand how sentence patterns of the request strategy employed by the characters dialogue in the Coraline movie. Then, the results in research question 2) showed that the formal pattern in the mood derivable strategy found that 112 utterances followed a positive verbal pattern and 2 utterances followed a negative verbal pattern. Next, the formal pattern in the suggestory formulae strategy found that 13 utterances followed a positive verbal pattern, 2 utterances followed a negative verbal pattern, and 1 utterance followed a question tag pattern. . Then, the formal pattern in the hedged performative strategy found that 2 utterances followed question pattern and 10 utterances followed positive verbal pattern. The formal pattern in the want statement strategy found that 9 utterances followed a positive verbal pattern. The formal pattern in the query preparatory strategy found that 7 utterances followed a positive verbal pattern and 1 utterance followed a question tag pattern. Next, the formal pattern in the strong hint strategy found that 6 utterances followed a positive verbal pattern. The formal pattern in the mild hint strategy found that 4 utterances followed a positive verbal pattern and 1 utterance followed a positive nominal pattern. The last, the formal pattern in the explicit performative strategy found that 2 utterances followed a positive verbal pattern. Based on the result of the research, the researcher wants to give suggestions for the students, teachers, and the future researchers. Students can further observe the types of strategies that can be applied in their approach to delivering the request. The teachers may use a few examples to teach speaking, particularly in the context of requests. Future researchers are advised to focus on a more focused approach to request, such as the hint strategy, which still rarely examined.
