Abstract
Globalization and significant technological progress have brought major impacts to various aspects of life, including education. In today’s digital era, almost everything can be accessed through the internet, making education more flexible and easily accessible. However, this also presents new challenges, especially in the cultural domain. Students are now frequently exposed to foreign cultures through platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, which can influence their attitudes, behaviors, and values. Movies are a powerful medium for conveying moral, social, educational, and cultural values. In this research, the researcher focuses on analyzing the character education contained in the film The Princess Diaries as one of the media that holds character education values which can be used as learning materials. The problem of this research is formulated in two ways: (1) What are type of character education found in The Princess Diaries movie? (2) How are character education presented in The Princess Diaries movie?. The aim of this study is to analyze the types character education and describe the character education presented in The Princess Diaries movie. The researcher employed a qualitative descriptive approach based on library research. The researcher classified this as using the library method because the data were obtained from library sources such as journals, articles, theses, and other references. To obtain data, the researcher carried out several actions: watching The Princess Diaries movie multiple times, reading its transcript, identifying dialogues related to character education, and selecting relevant facts and dialogues to classify according to character value types. Data analysis was conducted through condensing data, displaying data, and drawing conclusions. This method was used to analyze the character education values contained in The Princess Diaries movies. The results of the analysis of character education values in The Princess Diaries movie found twenty-two categories of character education values based on the theory of Thomas Lickona. The value of responsibility was found three times, respect two times, courage three times, honesty seven times, self-discipline one time, caring five times, and perseverance one time. The presentation of character education values in The Princess Diaries movie occurs both explicitly and implicitly. The researcher concluded that all categories of character education values according to Thomas Lickona’s theory can be found in The Princess Diaries movie. Therefore, The Princess Diaries movie can be used as a media for character education learning
