Abstract

Nadziroh, Latifatun. NIM 126203211041. 2025. The Effectiveness Of Using “Wordwall Game’’ On The Students’ Reading Ability At Ma Darul Huda Wonodadi. Skripsi. Tadris Bahasa Inggris. Fakultas Tarbiyah an Ilmu Keguruan. UIN Sayyid Ali Rahmatullah Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Arina Shofiya, M.Pd Keyword: Effectiveness, Wordwall game, Reading ability Reading ability is one of the most important basic skills in the learning process, especially in English language learning. However, the fact is that many students still struggle to understand English texts due to limited vocabulary, complex sentence structures, and a lack of motivation and interactive learning methods. At MA Darul Huda Wonodadi, similar problems were found, where students demonstrated low reading ability and a lack of interest in participating in learning activities. Therefore, innovative and engaging learning methods are needed to improve students' reading skills. One educational tool that can be utilized is the Wordwall Game, which is technology-based and adopts a game-based learning approach. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Wordwall Game in improving the reading ability of 11th grade students at MA Darul Huda Wonodadi. This study also aims to answer the research question regarding the extent to which the use of the Wordwall medium can have a significant impact on improving students' reading ability. This study uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design in the form of a one-group pretest-posttest. The research subjects were 31 eleventh-grade students. The instrument used was a multiple-choice question based on narrative text, administered before and after the treatment use of the Wordwall game. Data analysis was conducted using a paired sample t-test with the assistance of SPSS 25. The research results showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. The average student score increased from 69.81 to 76.58 after the intervention. The t-test produce a significance level of 0.002 (< 0.05), indicating that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the Wordwall Game is effective in improving the reading ability of 11th-grade students at MA Darul Huda Wonodadi. Therefore, it is recommended that English teachers utilize Wordwall games to improve student engagement and reading skills, encourage students to actively participate in game-based learning, and encourage future researchers to explore the use of Wordwall for other language skills and expand the scope of research with more diverse designs.
