Abstract

The thesis entitled "The Effectiveness of Using Google Translate on the 9th Grade Students Word Pronunciation Ability at MTsN 4 Tulungagung" was written by Elvina Dwi Damayanti, NIM 126203212100. Supervised by Dr. Elva Yohana, S. Hum., M. Pd. Keywords: Google Translate Application, Pronunciation Ability, Ninth-grade Students. Pronunciation is a necessary component of the English language because mispronouncing words can lead to misunderstanding. This study began with the phenomenon that showed pronunciation errors made by students. The word that should have been pronounced/"nou,tis/ he pronounced it /notais. Thus, encourages the researcher to choose this aspect as the research topic. One of the media commonly used by students is Google Translate because it offers a familiar translation tool that is efficient and practical for improving their English pronunciation. In this research, the research problem is "Is there any significant difference of ninth-grade students word pronunciation ability after being taught using Google Translate? Therefore, the objective of the study is to determine the differences in ninth-grade students' word pronunciation ability before and after being taught using Google Translate. To achieve this goal, the researcher used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design, one group pre-test and post-test. The population of this study was the ninth-grade students of MTsN 4 Tulungagung and the students in IX-I of MTsN 4 Tulungagung as samples, which totaled 37 students. The instrument used to gather the data was pre-test and post-test scores, which were calculated and analyzed by using SPSS 27 version. The result of this study there is a significant difference of ninth-grade students' word pronunciation ability before and after being taught using Google Translate on the pronunciation ability at MTsN 4 Tulungagung. This is shown by the increase in students' average scores from the pre-test of 42.57 to 81.62 in the post-test after being taught using the speech recognition and text-to-speech features in Google Translate. In conclusion, Google Translate has proven to be an effective learning tool for training pronunciation in the ninth-grade students at MTsN 4 Tulungagung. Its features, such as text-to-speech and speech recognition, helped students recognize correct pronunciation and receive immediate, personalized feedback.
