The Effectiveness of Using Small Group Discussion on Students' Speaking Skill at The Seventh Grade of Pondok Al Azhar Tulungagung in Academic Year 2020/2021. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Education. State Islamic Institute of Tulungagung. Advisor: Faizatul Istiqomah, M.Ed. Keywords: Small group discussion, Speaking Skill Small group discussion can achieve the communicative activity, because it fulfills two important language learning needs, prepares learners with real-life language use, and encourages them to actualize their language knowledge. This technique offers bigger chances to the learners in practicing their speaking skills because small group members make the students feel more confident in speaking. The purpose of the study is to know significant difference score on students' speaking skill of the seventh grade students at Pondok Al-Azhar Tulungagung taught by using Small Group Discussion and those taught by using a conventional strategy. This research used a quantitative approach with an experimental design. The researcher used a quasi-experiment as the design of the research to see the effectiveness using small group discussion on Students' Speaking Skill at The Seventh Grade of Pondok Al Azhar Tulungagung. Those groups were given a pretest and a posttest. The technique of the data anaysis used t-test statitical analysis. T-test was a kind of statistical test that was used to compare the means of two group experimental and control group. The result of this study there was a significant difference score in the speaking skill of the students' taugh by using Small group discussion and those taught by using the conventional method of the Seventh Grade of Pondok Al Azhar Tulungagung in Academic Year 2021/2022. It was shown by Independent sample T-test the significant value (sig-2 tailed) was 0.000 and it was smaller than 0.05 (0.00<0.05), the null hypothesis of the reserach was rejected and alternative hyphotesis was accepted.
