Abstract

The thesis entitled "Analysis of Figurative Language Used in The Lyrics of Selected Song on The Neck Deep Album" was written by Fazana roihan Hilmi, NIM 12203193174, English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. Supervised by Dr. Hj. Nanik Sri Rahayu, M.Pd Key words: Figurative language, Lyrics Song, Neck Deep. This study analyzes the use of figurative language in the lyrics of selected songs from the album Neck Deep. Song lyrics serve not only as entertainment but also as a medium for communication and self-expression, often containing figurative language that reflects the songwriter's emotions, outlook on life, and experiences. One popular band among teenagers whose lyrics are filled with figurative language is Neck Deep. This study examines the types and meanings of figurative language contained in the lyrics of selected songs on the album Neck Deep, and analyzes the messages conveyed through the use of these figurative language styles. Therefore, the primary objective of this study is to identify the types and meanings of figurative language contained in the lyrics and to uncover the key messages conveyed in the selected songs on the album Neck Deep. To achieve this objective, this study adopted a qualitative descriptive research design using content analysis methods. The primary data sources used were 15 selected songs from various Neck Deep albums, which were then analyzed in depth to identify the presence and types of figurative language styles. The results of the study identified 11 different types of figurative language styles, including metaphor, hyperbole, metonymy, imagery, irony, personification, symbolic figures of speech, simile, idiom, and synecdoche, with a total of 74 findings throughout the lyrics. This high use of figurative language indicates that Neck Deep's lyricists extensively utilize figurative language styles to create lyrics that are rich in complex emotional feelings and have high artistic value, thus being able to connect deeply with listeners. In conclusion, Neck Deep's song lyrics often use figurative language to convey strong meaning, emotional feelings, and beauty, creating emotional resonance with its audience.
